A total of 51 tons of food destined for humanitarian aid has been delivered since Wednesday, August 25, by the "United for food security" alliance, a commitment led by Riopaila Castilla, Castilla Agrícola, Riopaila Agrícola, the Caicedo González Riopaila Castilla Foundation and Arrocera La Esmeralda, in Valle del Cauca and Cauca.

On this occasion, 27,600 kilos of Blanquita rice and 6,000 kilos of Riopaila sugar will be donated, plus an ecological market bag with covid preventive information, to 2,400 beneficiary families residing in 15 communities of Bugalagrande, Florida, Miranda, Padilla, Pradera, Tuluá and Zarzal. ; In addition, the Cali Food Bank will receive 15 tons of rice from this alliance for use in community kitchens.

“The effects of the pandemic and the national strike have impacted many families in our areas of operation, which is why we have created this alliance working on three fronts: generation of agricultural capacities in small and medium-sized farmers, Afro and indigenous farmers; the, promotion of healthy habits and self-care; and in the delivery of food aid to families in vulnerable situations, rural and urban communities, from a humanitarian and solidarity approach” affirmed Carlos Augusto Gómez, manager of Sustainability of Riopaila Castilla and spokesman for this alliance.

According to information provided by nutrition experts, an average Colombian family consumes 20 pounds of rice and 4 pounds of sugar per month, which allows us to infer that this donation will last approximately 4 or 5 weeks.

The investment of the initiative exceeds $170 million and is articulated to one of the bets that we have for Food and Nutrition Security.
