At the end of the third quarter of 2023, the Riopaila Castilla Agroindustrial Group took stock of its contribution to energy generation in the country, which recorded sales of $21,342 million, which represents 1,71% of the company's total income. company and with which it can supply more than 80 thousand families.

This business segment of Riopaila Castilla, which expanded to the generation of surpluses for the supply of third parties, has been in operation for 8 years and arises from the need to contribute to the generation of renewable energies and to reduce environmental impacts and emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG). “Our production is currently 51MWH, thus materializing the commitment we have made to make a transition to cleaner processes possible. At Riopaila Castilla we are committed to making it increasingly possible to generate greater efficiencies in this process that allows us to use sugar cane to generate benefits for the sector and the community” - expressed Luisa Barona, UN DC Manager of the Riopaila Plant.

According to information from the agroindustrial group, companies that produce sugar cane by nature can produce steam that is transformed into energy for self-sufficiency. Currently, Riopaila Castilla allocates 61% of its energy production for the operation of its two plants in Valle del Cauca; However, this operation also allows there to be a surplus which is delivered to the national electrical grid to supply more than 80 thousand Colombians.
