Santiago de Cali, December 26, 2019

PRESS RELEASE

The Riopaila Castilla Agroindustrial Group continues its process of implementing organic cane, an environmentally friendly agricultural practice

As part of the company's commitment to sustainability, the second stage of the audit carried out by ECOCERT was carried out, a certifying entity that controls and monitors to start the production of organic cane and thus enter the European market.

  • As a result of this second stage of the audit, which included an additional 1,000 Ha; The ECOCERT certifying entity recognized the company for its good agricultural practices, and in this way, it obtained the certification of the second phase of the project in November 2019, without presenting any "Non-Conformity".
  • With this project it is hoped to acquire knowledge of organic management on a large scale and to reduce the costs of raising sugar cane without neglecting the yield and productivity of the field, leading or exceeding the current goals for conventional cultivation.
  • To date, the project has about 1,200 hectares in the conversion process, which will serve to produce more than 10,000 tons of organic sugar in 2022.
  • With the implementation of this project, the Riopaila Castilla Agroindustrial Group demonstrates its commitment to caring for the environment, through good ecological management of its crops, without adding or using chemicals to the soil, making optimal use of water and recovering the organic load, which brings benefits for both the company and its consumers, since organic sugar does not contain artificial chemicals.
