Patricia, the producer from Valle del Cauca who represents Colombian peasants and small farmers at the MACFRUT Fair in Italy

• Patricia Gutiérrez, a farmer from Obando, Valle, presented the experience of unionized fruit growers in the rural area of this municipality at the SME Forum on Agri-Food Chains held in Rimini, Italy.

Cali, May 5, 2023. – The commitment that Colombian peasants and small farmers give to the development of their communities with the work of fruit crops is the experience that Patricia Gutiérrez, a farmer from the municipality of Obando, Valle, brought to the 'SME Forum on Agri-Food Chains' that It took place from May 3 to 5 in Rimini, Italy, within the framework of the Macfrut Fair, the most important Italian fair in the fruit and vegetable sector.

It is an Italian-Latin American space in which development issues for micro, small and medium-sized businesses are addressed through public policies, business opportunities and technological collaborations, among others. There, Patricia presented the experience of Asoprofrut Norte, an association made up of 43 peasant families from Obando, Valle, dedicated to the cultivation of fruit trees, especially pear guava.

“We also have a bakery and we give added value to guava, with the preparation of sweets such as jelly, sandwiches. We are showing what we have in our beautiful region and Colombia. It is very good that they know what we produce as growers and what our wonderful climate allows us to grow. I participate with a full heart for my Colombian farmers so that they realize the work we do,” said the Legal Representative of Asoprofrut Norte, who was part of the series of presentations given by associations of agricultural chains from countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, among others.

Patricia and the organization she represents actively participate in the social initiatives led by the Riopaila Castilla Agroindustrial Group, as part of its commitment since 1918, with a commitment to the territorial development of the communities found in its areas of operation.
